Lauren E. Godfrey was born and raised in the vibrant city of New Orleans, Louisiana, where creativity runs deep in the culture and her family. Surrounded by artists and inspired by the city's rich artistic heritage, she discovered her passion for painting and drawing at a young age.

Her love for art led her to Louisiana State University, where she earned a Bachelor’s degree in Fine Arts with a focus on Painting and Drawing. Eager to expand her artistic and academic knowledge, she later pursued a Master’s in Art History at Friedrich-Alexander-Universität in Erlangen, Germany.

Throughout her journey, Lauren has balanced her own creative practice with working in contemporary art galleries internationally, gaining a deep appreciation for diverse artistic expressions. Now based in Hamburg, Germany, she continues to paint professionally and exhibit her work within Germany.

Through her art history studies, Lauren E. Godfrey explored the representation of nature across different periods and techniques, drawing inspiration that naturally found its way into her own artistic practice. She is deeply moved by the energy and spiritual essence of nature—how it makes us feel when we’re immersed in it, its delicate fragility yet immense power, and the deep connection we share with it.

These ideas influence not only what she paints but how she paints. Using a soak-staining technique on natural canvas, she allows colors to merge organically, creating fluid, evolving compositions—almost as if she’s collaborating with a living entity. Painting on the floor is an integral part of her process, grounding her as she moves around the canvas in an intuitive, almost primal dance.

She draws inspiration from artists such as Helen Frankenthaler, Jackson Pollock, and the Impressionists, particularly Monet. To her, painting is like cultivating a secret garden—a space where magic and mystery intertwine, allowing creativity to flourish without boundaries. In her dynamic, dreamlike compositions, she weaves together mystical landscapes, ethereal figures, and familiar objects in a harmonious dance.

Her soft yet expressive representations of nature capture the delicate but powerful energy she experiences in places she’s visited—or sometimes only dreamed of. Each piece is a meditation on nature’s beauty, fluidity, and the emotions it evokes.
